For starters, what does sorites mean🤔? It is derived from soros which means ‘heap’. Essentially the paradox lies in the following scenario: does 1 grain of sand constitute a heap of sand? Then the answer is definitely No. The question can continue to two or three grains of sand which still would not be considered a heap of sand. However, the problem you quickly face is in the vagueness of when this collection of sand becomes a heap of sand. There is no objective way to determine when this would be.

The lesson learned

From this paradox, we see that the language we use is vague and allows a lot of interpretation. The same logic applies to your investments and portfolio that builds up over time. Does a R 1,000 deposit into an investment constitute a lot of money? Long term, no it does not. Does another R 1,000 deposit now mean that you have built up enough wealth? So the question continues, when does the line get drawn between enough and not enough? Let's look further at a scenario.
